#ThrowbackThursday with Amy

Hey Everyone!

Today is the second new surprise feature that we will be doing weekly with the #HowToWednesday!

Today we are throwing it back to a beautiful summer wedding from 2014!  Kelsey and Josh had a stunning wedding out at High Grove Estates in Fuquay Varina. Kelsey wore a stunning lace dress and to top it off, she wore her grandmas veil that her mother had also worn.   Kelsey’s mom also grew all the beautiful peonies that decorated High Grove.  Kelsey and Josh’s wedding could not have been more perfect! And to top it off, they and their friends are amazing shag dancers and their reception never had an empty dance floor!

#HowToWednesday with Scott

Hey Everyone!!

Here at Your Still Life Photography we are going to start a few new “traditions” this week. The first being How to Wednesday or #HowToWednesday!

So this past Saturday Amy and I had a gorgeous wedding starting at Campbell University and ending at the RDU General Aviation Terminal. The only downside about shooting here is that the sunset is not over runway but on the other side of the building. Being how I always love a good sunset picture with an amazing sky I was determined to make something work. Right as you walk out of the doors there is a little hill going up to the main parking lot. My goal was to make the couple appear that they had gone to an open field rather than right outside the door. The way to do this is to get as low as possible at the lowest point of the hill, then have you couple or client at the highest point. The affect is what you see here:

From this point you can see that the couple is on a nice little patch of grass, but sky is blow out and I did not have my flash equipment with me, but that’s ok! Next you need to take a picture of just the sky at the correct exposure as seen here:

Here is where the Photoshop skills come in! First you need to copy your edited image where you have the blown out background. Then you will erase all of the white sky. You can do this a few different ways, for me I first try the “Magic” eraser and that will do the job about 80% of the time. The rest of the time I do it by hand and erase it with the normal eraser. As you have most likely already noticed the grass is the picture is quite jagged since it had been a few days since it was cut. This is not a huge issue by turning the hardness down to 0% and making the overall size of the eraser around 4-10px you can blend it out nicely. On this photo I added a few more layers of blending to get the glasses and veil the opacity I wanted but that isn’t in every picture I do this on.

Taylor – Senior

Taylor is not your average high school senior!  She truly is extraordinary!  She started a job as a personal assistant and was so good at it, she was able to go to high school, have a full time job and manage to move out and support herself!  She is now attending Meredith while continuing to work.  She is everything that a Meredith Girl should be-Strong, Smart, Confident and Beautiful!!!

Nicole and Jeff – Engagement

Nicole and Jeff had a perfect Spring day for their engagement session out at Duke Gardens.  I love how they included some elements from the movie UP into their session!  UP is a huge theme they are using in their wedding later this year!

Nellie and Bobbie – Wedding

Nellie and Bobbie had a beautiful destination wedding at Sandals Resort in Jamaica!  Thier parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors all came to Jamaica to be with Nellie and Bobbie as they said their vows and became husband and wife! Nellie and Bobbie were so gracious the whole time, always making sure everyone-including us were comfortable and well taken care of!  It was a perfect weekend full of sun, love, friends and family!  Of course, when you go go Jamaica to get married, you have to have a trash the dress session in the ocean and then you and all of your guest just have to jump in the pool together!!  We can not thank Nellie and Bobbie enough for having us photograph their wedding!

Matt and Hillair – Engagement

Hillair and Matt had such a sweet engagement session out at Lake Wilson.  I had never been out there before but it is a nice little park with tons of options! Hillair and Matt were completely adorable as they cuddled up on a chilly spring morning!

Kelsey and Josh – Engagement

For Kelsey and Josh’s engagement session that had a really cute idea! Most of their guest for their wedding were coming in from out of town and would be staying at the Marriott Downtown on Fayetteville St so they they thought it would be fun to have their session downtown so that their guest would see and recognize some of the locations when they came to visit! We definitely had a lot of fun roaming streets downtown!

Jordyn and Erich – Wedding

I knew from the moment I had met Jordyn that I was going to love everything about her! She is so spunky and her laughter is so contagious! She and Erich were married out at the Fish Pond at Duke Gardens and then traveled to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham for their reception. Jordyn had a hand in everything about her wedding! Her three favorite things were weaved throughout her whole day-red, anything Japanese inspired and butterflies! Their two doggies served as honorary bride and groom during their wedding and Jordyn and Erich started their reception off with a butterfly release (which is a lot harder than it seems!) Their wedding was filled with so much love and laughter and we were honored to be a part of it!

Anya – Senior

We photographed Anya’s senior session out at the Little Raleigh Rose Garden as she had very fond memories of visiting the rose garden with her family. I like to grab a picture at the end of who all is at the session-just as a way to document and for the senior to remember who was with her-I love how when they grouped together she and her mom held hands and her brother embraced them. That picture alone tells so much of their family bond and love for each other!

Brittany and Rod – Wedding

Brittany and Rod were married at the beautiful Governors Club in Chapel Hill.  Thier outside wedding was moved inside due to the cold and rain, but thankfully we were able to get outside for 5 min for some of their romantic pictures.  One of my favorite parts of their ceremony was when they used the sand for the unity time and the poured pink, blue and black sand into a framed picture from their engagement session that we had done in the fall.  I love this idea!! It was very important to Brittany and Rod that everyone of all ages had an amazing time at their wedding, and I know this wish came true for them!  Brittany is a former college basketball player for a team here in town, and I believe they are related to several current players, so had I known more about college basketball, I think I would have been star struck!
